Agility & Hoopers
Fun Agility Training
There are three levels of classes:
Each course is 8 weeks in duration.
It is important to note that our Agility training is very much geared towards pet dogs – we don’t train for competition, although many of the people who have been coming for a long time are very good and could easily compete if they wished to.
Because we cater for pet dogs, we keep the jumps at a medium height or lower for the smaller or less agile dogs (we don’t ever ask the dogs to jump full height) and most of the contact equipment is lower than in a competition environment.
We have many different breeds of dog in our classes but we do advise against certain breeds participating in agility; for example the very heavy breeds. Even over low jumps, this can be too punishing for their joints. Also the long-backed breeds where jumping can be damaging to the spine.
To join the groups, a dog must be one year old or more – this is to make sure that young dogs do not do too much on soft and growing bones and joints.
The “one year old” mark is a guideline and for some bigger dogs, we may even ask people to wait longer than this before starting Agility training. A dog must have a passable recall (as they are off lead a lot), have an even temperament with both dogs and humans and ideally should love to chase a ball!
Please check our timetable page for the start dates of forthcoming agility training or contact us for more information.

Introduction To Agility
This Introduction to Agility session is aimed at handlers and/ or dogs who like the look of this fun sport but haven’t had the opportunity to try.
The session will enable you to gently introduce your dog to almost every piece of equipment and give you the chance to see whether you and your dog would like to do more! Don’t worry – you wont be expected to fly around like mad or run your dog for two hours. The session will be broken up into various sections, mixing action and discussion to give you a good all-round idea and view of Agility with a group of other dogs and handlers at a similar level. |
Agility Workshop
These one-off sessions are for anyone who is currently training for Agility and are aimed at focusing on specifics - such as handling techniques, weaves, contact training and more.
Less running, more skill! See timetable for next workshop dates. |
Hoopers
Hoopers is a dog agility game where instead of going over jumps, the dog runs through specially designed hoops.
Hoopers is a fun way to exercise dogs that have retired or dogs that may be building up their fitness after injury. One thing that may appeal to people is that you don't always have to run with your dog. Rob is trained to teach Hoopers and holds Accreditation UK Level 1 Instructors status. |
